Simply put, stone fireplaces consist of either manufactured or natural materials. This surround renovation by the duo behind Chris loves Julia incorporates the latter. The stacked stone ledgers are strips of dark, charcoal marble glued to interlocking panels for easy installation. For drama, the fireplace goes up to the ceiling. As a result, the stunning stonework draws the eyes upward making the average sized room feel ginormous and airy. Capping off the remodel is the live-edge wood mantel that beautifully complements the textured marble.
For a clean and simple look, this unassuming fireplace packs a big punch. The offset hearth is charming in its simplicity, while the large white expanse is a fantastic place to display a beloved piece of art. The black and white design is the perfect backdrop for varying shades of green, and the boxy shape contrasts beautifully with soft, comfy furniture. Because this fireplace takes up a large portion of a wall, it gives a cozy and warm feeling. This is a perfect space for unwinding and relaxing, surrounded by the comforting glow of firelight and soft furnishings.

Shake things up at home by painting an old, red brick fireplace a bold and unexpected shade. Jennifer, the crafty do-it-yourselfer behind The Suburb Experiment, pulled off the look of Staffordshire brick, which is a gorgeous shade of blue, using paint. The trick behind this project is using paint to tint the bricks instead of thickly covering them with flat color. To do the blogger combined one part blue paint and one part white paint with around four parts of water. Then she applied the homemade color wash to each brick using a brush. Then, before the paint dried, she wiped off the excess color using a clean, dry rag.
