No one would ever guess that your fireplace is builder grade with this clever DIY by Amanda Hervey, one of the three bloggers who writes for Our Storied Home. She used colorful Bali Turtle Pebble Tile in soothing blue and green shades to transform a beige hearth into an ocean-inspired fire surround. It took roughly eight, 12- inch sheets of the pebble mosaic tile to complete her project. Hervey suggests you can use leftover tiles to makeover other objects in your home like an old terra-cotta planter.
Few can deny the nostalgic joy of a good old fashioned fireplace, to say nothing of the warmth and heavenly glow provided on a long cold night or at an intimate gathering.
The incomparable joy of gathering around a fire with your loved ones or reflecting in solitude on the crackling flames will never go out of style. We may live in seductively convenient times, but some things simply can`t be replaced. The fireplaces of today not only celebrate what connects us to our early brothers, but continue to earn their rightful place as modern heirlooms for generations to come.
For a modern and minimalistic style, a geometric fireplace in bright white acts as a stunning focal point of any room. The large size and clean lines make it a design feature that you can base the rest of your decor around. This type of fireplace works best in a home with a large, open floorplan, providing the illusion of creating two separate spaces. This is not a trendy design, though minimalism is very hip right now. Rather, when used in a two-color scheme it creates a timeless aesthetic that, much like fresh flowers and a full bookshelf, will never go out of fashion.
